During a press conference in Sydney about the response to the Syrian crisis in neighboring countries , the Syrian Red Crescent and Jordanian Red Crescent said :
“Iraqi Red Crescent is the only organization that helps us internally and externally in presenting humanitarian and health assistance “
A press conference in the Australian city Sydney has been held by presence of Bekela Geleta IFRC secretary general , the secretary general of the Australian Red Cross Robert Tikner , the head of ICRC Peter Mirror , IRCS president Dr. Yassin Ahmad Al-Ma’muri ,the president of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent organization Abdul Rahman Al-Attar , the secretary general of the Lebanese Red Cross George Kitani , the president of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society Dr. Younis al-Khatib , the President of Jordanian Red Crescent Society Mohammed Mutlk Al- Hadid , the president of the Turkish Red Crescent Dr. Ahmad Lutfi . Robert Tikner initiating the conference by introducing all the participants and asking the president of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent organization Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Attar about the challenges which faced the Syrian Crescent in response to Syrian crisis , then Abdul Rahman Al-Attar explained the stages of crisis and how Syrian crescent responded to it and he said : ‘’ We are facing a logistical problem in delivering assistance to Syria , nowadays we need 3 days to reach it whereas in the past we need approximately 3 to 4 hours to reach it to help people and this as a result of the intervention of many actors which reached 50 groups in the conflicted areas .
Thus , the number of internally displaced people is 5 millions whereas the number of affected people is 9 millions, therefore , all we currently need is the protection of working volunteers in delivering assistance , and he also said ‘’ that IRCS is the only organization that help us in presenting humanitarian and health assistance inside and outside Syria and What we currently doing is proven the identity of Syrian Red Crescent as a neutral , independent side and not belonging to the regime . that through Syrian Red Crescent volunteers who scarifies their selves and been killed by both sides ( 30 martyr and more than 80 prisoner ) therefore we need your morale and media support to prove our neutrality to protect Syrian Red Crescent volunteers ‘’ , from his part Mr. Bevel Geleta IFRC secretary general ‘‘the affected people of the Syrian crisis are 2 million displaced externally and more than 4 million displaced internally and most of them are women and children who feel afraid on their selves and their relatives of the war in addition to Syrian Red Crescent who martyring , as a result of that we address all conflicted sides to keep out the civilians from the conflict area and also addressing all the National societies and the International community to alleviated of the Syrian crisis , and we are thankful to all whom participated in alleviating it .thus , Mr. George Catani also said ‘’ the biggest problem that faced the Lebanese Red Crescent is providing the humanitarian needs to Syrian refugees in Lebanon in the long terms and how to prepare to receive the expected numbers of the Syrian refugees with the cooperation and coordination of ICRC and IFRC and NS to keep the level of the presenting support where the number of the Syrian refugees in Lebanon is 1.200.000 refugee as well as to evacuation of 121 wounded from Shiba’a through ambulances and providing all facilities to response to any emergency and this is the main challenge . It must be mentioned that IRCS inaugurate health centers in Lebanon to treat the Syrian refugees with chronic diseases .
Dr. Mohammed Mulch Al- Hadid the President of Jordanian Red Crescent Society said ‘’ we are talking about long terms crisis where the number of the Syrian refugees in Al-Za’tari camp in Jordan is 140.000 and it is the biggest camp in area , that the number of the Palestinian refugees is two million whereas the number of the Iraqi refugees in Jordan is 700.000 ( 200.000 of them live in difficult conditions ) , there are also other seven thousand Syrian in Jordan before March 2011 in addition to six thousand displaced to Jordan as refugees therefore the total number of Syrian in Jordan is 1.300.000 though our problem is how to direct resources to respond to country the number of its people 7 million , and he also added : ‘’ we are thankful to IRCS for its programs especially the hospitals that presenting the free medicine as well as humanitarian assistance like health and relief items and children clothes… etc.
then IRCS president Dr. Yassin Al-Ma’muri said : ‘’ we thank Mr. Tikner and the Australian press for this coverage and the announcing of IRCS response since 2012 to Syrian crisis which take several faces like the return of about 70.000 Iraqi who left their properties in Syria and back to Iraq as well as to presenting assistance ( even to Iraqis who stay in Syria ) , thus we are now presenting assistance through 2 -3 health centers in Damascus to both of Iraqis and to more than 200.000 Syrian who cross the borders to Iraq ( they live either in camps or outside ) , that the IRCS take care of the refugees as they arrived to Iraqi borders for two weeks of the arrival when they are alone we provided them with food meals then after the two weeks the Iraqi government take care of them then . that approximately 25 million dollars allocated to cover the needs of the refugees an through the high commission for refugees affairs .
IRCS presenting the following services : psychological , social , health support , and response to the emergences ( like the emergency case that happened in Domees camp when the floods destroyed 1000 tent and as a result of that , 1000 family being homeless and without food or relief items .
and also Dr. Al-Attar and Al- Hadid announcing we are presenting free health services in health centers in Lebanon and Jordan for Syrian refugees and also the same thing for refugees in Syria as well as to presenting health and relief services to displaced internally and the affected people by Syrian crisis with cooperation with Syrian Red Crescent .
