The city of Qayarah can be considered as one of the biggest cities at Nineveh governorate southern of Mosul, and as a result of military operations in the district more than 10 thousand people have been displaced from the city toward Kurdistan IraqWith this numbers of displaced people, the humanitarian situation is becoming increasingly difficult that represented by food, water, housing, health services and humanitarian needs. The indicate of field assessments that done by the Iraqi Red Crescents’ teams there are a large number of families still need immediate interventions.
Muaiad Al-Issawi, one of the displaced from Qayarah said “The security situation inside and outside the city forced us to flee, there is no life and there is no water nor electricity, as well as the difficulty of obtaining food adding to rise prices of food”.
While Ahmeds’ mother said “I have three kids, the living in the city is very difficult and unbearable, the children’s father looking for work and there is opportunity in the area, thus, we decided to take our kids and go to Erbil and we found there human organizations, including the Red Crescent Society where some members of the Red Crescent distribute milk and food to my children.
The head of the Red Crescent / Erbil Branch, Howry Ihssan said “our relief teams has received during the past two days, more than 1,000 displaced people in the city of Qayarah who been housed in Depka camp at Erbil governorate, which houses more than 10 thousand displaced people from the city of Qayarah”.
The Crescents’ teams has distributed more than 1,000 ready food meal and relief materials as well as equipping children with milk. Meanwhile the Crescents’ health teams providing health services like first aid lectures and psychosocial support for displaced families.
Howry Ihssan added also that it is certainly there will be displacement due to the security situation in the area, thus, our relief teams get preparedness and become ready to receive the potential displacement waves through providing and relief assistance and food items for displaced families in collaboration with International and Local Organizations in the Governoater.
