The Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS) / Maissan branch has implemented a number of health programs and workshops in the field of transitional diseases awareness, cholera, first aid and psychosocial support in the governorate. As the IRCS’s teams provided psychosocial support to displaced people in the camp of displaced so that to alleviate their suffering as well as to made a questionnaire and collect some data about displaced to assess their needs for water, sanitation and hygiene in the places of their residence.
The stuff of the mentioned branch has held first aid workshop for volunteers and Civil Society Organizations that included theoretical and practical lectures regarding the principles of first aid and how to provide it to the injured during emergency situations, adding to provide health and awareness lectures about cholera and the methods which prevent it, and the transitional diseases, personal hygiene and to emphasis on drinking water that fits for human consumption in which the number of beneficiaries was (74).
There were also some dissemination lectures for identifying the role of the Red Crescent and the Red Cross and the difference between them to the volunteers of the branch and the offices there, and to the staff of Vocational Training Department, Civil Society Organizations (topics of International Law, the laws of states during the war, humanitarian work and the principles of the International Movement of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies) in which the number of beneficiaries was (75) person , the aim of this lecture was to strength the concept of humanity and raise the sense of social responsibility among segments of society.
Some of other health workshops about transitional diseases for volunteers and the staff at the branch, the Department of Communication and the Department of Civil Defense and Youth at youth sports forum that included cholera prevention and to provide psychosocial support for young people, mothers of martyrs and widows.
The staff of branch also held health awareness campaign against cholera in Al-Uzayria district included awareness lectures about the risk of cholera and its prevention and its causes and symptoms adding to emphasis on drinking boiled water, and to distributed posters in this regard. The stuff monitored one case that infected by cholera, they also implemented effective awareness lecture from war remnants and learning people not to get closer of it.
