The visit of ICRC president to Iraq

The President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Peter Maurer of his official visit to Iraq , which lasted four days, where he met a number of political and religious figures visited during the general status of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society in Baghdad on Monday and was to receive him President of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society , Dr. Yassin Mamouri .

The two sides discussed ways of cooperation in the field of humanitarian action and development , to the Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki by the President of the Iraqi Red Crescent , Dr. Yassin Mamouri and Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer and discussed with them the humanitarian situation and relief efforts in Iraq , and Iraq’s position in support of the efforts humanity. Maliki said that “Iraq is extending a helping hand to many of the poor countries and provided tens of millions of dollars to these countries in support of humanitarian efforts in it.”
For his part, Maurer expressed his gratitude to the position of Iraq in support of humanitarian efforts , especially with regard to refugees Syrians inside and outside Iraq , as pointed head of the Iraqi Red Crescent , Dr. Yassin Mamouri that ” Iraq is the only country that has not only harboring and helping Syrian refugees on its territory but gave them support within Syria and abroad and set up special camps in Lebanon and Jordan

An independent national humanitarian society that works to reduce the suffering and pain of people without discrimination during the peace and war , natural disasters and non-natural disasters , it is also considered one of the most activist societies in the international movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent. The work of the society depends on the principle of voluntary work which considered the base in IRCS work , that the voluntary service is embodied the fundamental principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent international movement which considered volunteers the basic block in the society work , that the voluntary relief doesn’t work for any interest or seek for any profit .
